Writing Intensive (WI) Faculty Workshop

Whether you are teaching a WI course for the first time or revising a course, the modules in this workshop can help you plan sequenced activities to help your students, as novice writers in your discipline, to become stronger writers.

Our guidebook, Writing Assignments and Feedback: An Introduction, is your overview of research findings and suggestions from experts in the teaching of writing.

Then, in the following seven modules, you will find a brief overview video followed by a description of activities and assignments that could work for you as you plan, teach, and assess writing in your course.

  1.  An Introduction to Writing Intensive Courses at CMU
  2. Planning Your Writing Intensive Course
  3. Designing Writing Assignments
  4. Strategies for Teaching Writing
  5. Providing Feedback to Writers
  6. Assessing Writing, Improving Writers
  7. Working with International Students
  8. Resources and References

We hope you enjoy your tour through these modules, videos and associated resources.
