Concha Allen, associate professor and founding faculty member of the professional sales program, has been appointed co-chair of the Shared Governance and Communications Committee by Academic Senate Chair Melinda Kreth, in consultation with the senate executive board.
Effective in May, Allen follows Christi Brookes, professor and chair of foreign languages, literatures and cultures, whose three-year term is expiring. Brookes and Allen have been part of the current shared governance and communications process since it started in 2012.
"Dr. Brookes has dedicated countless hours to bringing the campus community together and helping CMU move forward with cohesion," Kreth said. "Her vision has pushed all of us to reach higher, connect more deeply and advance together strategically."
Allen joined CMU in 2006 after earning a Ph.D. in marketing and management from the University of North Texas, an MBA from the University of South Alabama and a B.A. in advertising from Texas Tech University. She previously worked in business-to-business sales and was a consultant for the Small Business Development Center at the University of South Alabama.
Allen has been a member of the Academic Senate since 2009, serving a term on the executive board and as a member of the Trustees-Faculty Liaison Committee.
Sherry Knight, associate vice president of university communications, has been co-chair of the SGCC since fall 2015.
