The Shared Governance and Communications Committee hosts monthly after-work get-togethers for all faculty, staff and administrators at the Courtyard by Marriott at CMU. The next 5-7 p.m. event is scheduled for May 3.
Concha Allen, faculty co-chair of the Shared Governance and Communications Committee, encourages all new faculty and staff to attend so they can advance the personal connections that will cement them as part of the CMU community.
Sherry Knight, the staff co-chair and associate vice president of University Communications, said the monthly events respond to repeated requests to give faculty and staff a space and time to connect.
"We've heard about when such a space existed on campus, and how faculty, staff and administrators used that to forge relationships and even talk through challenging issues. The Shared Governance and Communications Committee made it a priority and partnered with the Marriott," Knight said. "We're thankful to the CMU alumni working at the Marriott who've made this possible."
Discounted drinks and appetizers will be available for those with a CMU ID. Parking is available behind the hotel in the stadium lot.
The socialization events are typically scheduled the third Thursday of every month. May's event will be on the first Thursday, May 3, just before commencement to celebrate the end of another successful academic year.
