Help shape CMU’s strategic plan

Open forums, website provide opportunities for stakeholders to weigh in

November 10, 2016

The Central Michigan University Strategic Planning Team has organized open forums and other venues for stakeholders — both inside and external to the university — to share their opinions on CMU's Advancing Excellence strategic plan.

The team, which is charged with reviewing and updating CMU's strategic plan, seeks input about which aspects of the plan should be changed and how.

The team will host open forums for faculty, students, and staff on CMU's Mount Pleasant campus and at the College of Medicine campus in Saginaw. Additional open forums will be held for non-CMU stakeholders.

Off-campus faculty, students and staff will receive an email invitation to participate in WebEx forums.   Members of the CMU Alumni Board and all alumni chapter leaders will be invited to participate in conference call forums.

Academic departments, governance councils and other units are encouraged to discuss strategic planning during their regularly scheduled meetings in November or December.

To spur discussion in all venues, a document on the Strategic Planning Team website includes current priorities and initiatives — along with comments and questions in the margin — that arose from the team's discussions.

The site also includes a link for all CMU stakeholders to submit anonymous comments, which will be viewed only by members of the Strategic Planning Team.

The team plans to have a rough draft of an updated strategic plan by early March 2017, which will then be presented to the Academic Senate. The Board of Trustees is expected to review the final plan at its April 2017 meeting.

Questions may be directed to strategic planning co-chairs Provost Mike Gealt at and Academic Senate Chair Melinda Kreth at
