OFF-CAMPUS ADJUNCT FACULTY

Biography

Pad Alce is a faculty member in our Master of Entrepreneurial Ventures program, where he teaches ENT 640, Intellectual Property for Entrepreneurs.  He has also served as a speaker in undergraduate classes and as an NVC mentor.

Pad currently resides in the Charlotte, NC area – where he is the Founding Partner of A|I Patent Law, a firm that helps startups and other high-growth ventures build patent portfolios.  His clients typically focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other leading edge technologies.  Because of his passion for and knowledge of these areas, Pad likes to embed himself into the businesses of his clients and serve as their de facto in-house patent counsel while he advises on patent strategy, patent budgeting, and patent portfolio creation.  By doing this, Pad enables his clients to achieve their valuation and exit objectives.  During his career, he has counseled ventures that have, collectively, raised venture capital of more than $1.2 billion and had exits exceeding $4 billion.  His clients have hailed from various locations including Silicon Valley, Ann Arbor, and Austin.

Pad received his LLM in Law & Entrepreneurship from Duke Law and his JD and MBA from Campbell University.  At Campbell, he served as President of the Intellectual Property Law Society.  As an undergraduate, he attended NC State University, where he earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering and was a proud member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the National Society of Black Engineers, and the Wolfpack football team (he played Cornerback).
