This undergraduate certificate program gives you hands-on training in the tests and processes involved in producing great fermented beverages in both the laboratory and the brewery. The program provides you with the opportunity to intern with local brewing companies, too. (no previous brewing experience is required)
This 16-credit-hour undergraduate certificate is designed for degree-seeking students of any major and non-degree-seeking students who want to understand the science and technology involved in brewing craft beer. It will prepare you for entry or advancement in the brewing industry or advanced studies in fermentation science or food science.
As a student in the CMU fermentation program, you’ll:
- Work with and learn from two local businesses, Mountain Town Brewing Co. and Hunter's Ale House, key partners in this program.
- Have an opportunity to develop student-crafted beers using your own recipe, ferment conditions, ingredients and packaging.
- Be able to compete against other college brewing programs by submitting your products to the U.S. Open College Beer Championship.
