Build the knowledge and skills you need to teach English language courses in schools and nonprofit programs around the world. A certificate in TESOL is your ticket to global adventure and a chance to introduce nonnative speakers to the opportunities that abound when they learn English.

Open to students in any major, the certificate program includes 25 hours of service learning. You'll work in local schools or in CMU's own English Language Institute where you'll help fellow students improve their English while learning about their cultures and traditions. In courses like Introduction to Linguistics and Introduction to Second Language Acquisition, you’ll learn about teaching, language and even yourself.
