You are surrounded by positivity

“I came to campus for a tour with a friend and honestly had no intention of coming here. I really just wanted a Friday off from school. CMU completely won me over. From the moment I stepped on campus I felt like I was at home. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, I just fell in love with the positivity this school radiates. That was when I realized this was the kind of environment I wanted for my undergraduate career.”

Never say never

“I never imagined myself having the opportunity to travel the country, as well as the world, while in college. Through the Alternative Breaks program, I was able to do both. Those experiences transformed me completely. Between my international break and studying abroad, I spent three months in Europe, and it opened my eyes to new perspectives.”

You have a purpose

“The best part about volunteering through the Mary Ellen Brandell Volunteer Center is that you are not just doing it to do it. Every activity you participate in has a purpose, and the volunteer center does a great job of helping you realize and discover the educational purpose of every opportunity and the impact you are having.”

Your peers will inspire you

“I think the people who have influenced me the most throughout my time here are my peers. Seeing all of the incredible things they are able to do has really inspired me, and it has shown me that I can do those things as well.”

Come into college open-minded

“Having an open mind is the biggest piece of advice I could offer to incoming students. When I came to college as a freshman I expected things to be one way, and it is so completely different in such a good way. It is important to be open to new experiences.”

Setting you up for success

“Graduating in three years and getting accepted into law school was my proudest moment because it just goes to show that all of the time and effort I put in has been worth it. My acceptance made me realize that the people and resources available truly are here to set you up for success.”

Forever a CMU Chippewa

“After I graduate I really hope to continue to come back and share my experiences with other students. I could talk about CMU for hours, it is such a unique passion and love that we have for our school. I am going to be such a proud alum.”
