Unique opportunities are everywhere

“Last semester I was given the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for Honors 100. I had the chance to mentor a group of first-semester honors students and help them acclimate to college, overcome obstacles and grow into themselves.”

Change your perspective

“I went to South Korea with one cultural perspective. Once I got there I realized everyone has different views, new perspectives and unique ways of analyzing the world. It really expanded my perspective and forced me to view the world differently.”

Embrace every moment

“Studying abroad taught me to embrace every moment I have. I had a limited amount of time while I was in Korea so I used every moment of downtime to go explore. It is a perspective I am now applying to my time back at CMU.”

Do not limit yourself

“Get involved quickly and do not limit yourself to what you think you can do. It might seem daunting and scary, but people will support you along the way and make you realize your potential is endless.”

Every opportunity is a chance to grow

“Every single opportunity you take at CMU is going to enrich you in some way, but you do not have to do everything. You will grow and change no matter what you choose to do.”

Helping others gain knowledge

“I have always loved science, and I was considering pre-med when I first came to college. Once I got into the classroom and started researching, I began to realize my passion for it. As a doctor you would obviously get to help a lot of people, but I realized I was more passionate about helping people gain knowledge.”
