Reference and Research Help
The Clarke Historical Library holds a wide range of primary and secondary resources that offer boundless opportunities for exploration and discovery. These resources fall into three broad subject areas, as stated in the mission of the library: the history of Michigan and the Old Northwest Territory, the historical record of Central Michigan University, and children's literature. Our holdings include rare books, manuscripts, archives, maps, photographs, artworks, films, and much more. All materials are consulted in the Reading Room, and a growing number of our collections are accessible online.
Students, faculty, and staff, as well as outside scholars and community members are welcome to use the collections and services. We are available for reference assistance in the reading room during our open hours as well as research appointments.
