Records

There are multiple law enforcement agencies within Isabella County and a listing of these with contact information is provided on this page to ensure requests for records are submitted to the appropriate law enforcement agency.

The CMU Police Department processes record requests including incident reports, traffic crash reports, citations, and background inquiries in the order received. If you have any questions, you can email policerecords@cmich.edu.

Background checks

For third-party background checks, please submit a signed release with return fax/email to policerecords@cmich.edu or via fax at (989) 774-2470.

Request for copies of accident reports can be purchased online directly from the State of Michigan at the following website: https://mdotjboss.state.mi.us/TCPS/login/welcome.jsp

You may also complete the CMU PD Records Request Form. Once the form is complete, return it to CMU Police via email at policerecords@cmich.edu, via fax (989) 774-2470, or in person. You will be contacted once the form has been processed. There is a $10 fee for all accident reports processed at our department. 

Incident reports

To obtain a copy of your closed report, please complete the CMU PD Records Request Form. Once the form is complete, return it to CMU Police via email at policerecords@cmich.edu, via fax at (989) 774-2470, or in person. You will be contacted once the form has been processed and notified if there is a fee associated with the report retrieval.

Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

A FOIA request must be submitted in writing to the CMU General Counsel Office. The request may be transmitted in hard copy, by email or by facsimile.
