Listed here are the general eligibility guidelines for receiving financial aid as a transfer student at CMU. You may need to meet additional requirements for specific scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study programs.
Once you’ve reviewed the general requirements, we encourage you to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASA) and apply for scholarships. That’s the best way to find out exactly how much you qualify for.
- You must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen to receive financial aid at CMU. You cannot be in default on a federal loan or owe a refund or repayment on any federal or state program. You will also need to sign all certification statements.
- Your financial aid award is based on regular admission to an eligible degree or certificate-granting program of study. Guest students are not eligible for aid from CMU. Students who have been admitted on a conditional, provisional, or non-degree basis are not eligible for aid from CMU unless they are enrolled in our teacher certification program or completing prerequisite coursework for regular admission to a graduate program.
- Your award is based on full-time enrollment in on-campus courses, unless otherwise noted. If you enroll on a part-time basis, your aid may be reduced or canceled. We determine your enrollment status for financial aid purposes as of the ninth day of classes each semester (the census date). CMU Online has different census dates. Contact the Student Service Court in the Bovee University Center or at 989-774-3618 if you have questions.
- You must make satisfactory academic progress toward your degree to remain eligible for financial aid.
- Your award is contingent on the accuracy of your FAFSA. If you are asked to supply additional documentation to support your application, you must do so.
- Your award may be adjusted if we receive information that affects your eligibility. For example, if you receive additional aid beyond what was listed on your award notice, we may reduce your award package.
