Prepare for a career in a variety of surgical fields
The CMU College of Medicine's General Surgery residency program provides high-achieving physicians with top-quality training for a rewarding career in a broad range of surgical fields
We seek enthusiastic residents who want to make important contributions to the field, especially those who share our mission to expand services in Northern Michigan. Those who seek to contribute to the field in other places and in other ways will also find that our program offers outstanding training for whatever their personal mission in General Surgery may be.
Why choose CMU for general surgery?
The General Surgery program offers a challenging and rewarding training environment that allows residents to hone a wide set of advanced capabilities. Your professional growth is also aided by a new 46,000-square-foot CMU College of Medicine educational
building on the Covenant campus, which provides classrooms, labs, training spaces, and a medical library.
As a resident, you'll train at two principal hospitals in Saginaw: Covenant HealthCare and MyMichigan Medical Center. These serve as the primary referral centers for most of the Great Lakes Bay Region's complex medical care.
Our team of experienced faculty with a distinguished record of patient care and teaching excellence is central to the program's success. We've assembled an impressive group of leading surgeons with a broad range of board-certified specialties, including general surgery, surgical oncology, breast oncology, colon and rectal surgery, vascular surgery, and surgical critical care. Additional experience and specialty interests include laparoscopic surgery, endocrine surgery, microsurgery, and robotic surgery.
