CMU Online Military Scholarships

CMU Online scholarships are gift funds that you don’t have to repay. Learn more about our active duty, veteran, and military family scholarships that help students overcome financial challenges.

Here are some of the options.

Established in 2014 by Steven A. Rellinger (Class of 1985 and 1996) and family and friends in honor of his mother, Betty A. Brubaker and also John Sheets, Don Rellinger and Herman Wright, members of the United States Military. This scholarship provides assistance for currently enrolled CMU students who are personnel of the U.S. Armed Forces, National Guard, reserves, or honorably discharged veterans, and/or their respective family members. The recipient(s) must be eligible for Veterans Affairs (VA) educational entitlement under chapters 30, 31, 33, 35, 1606 or 1607 and provide a copy of his or her VA Certificate of Eligibility. Recipients also must have a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.5 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.

Established in 2008 by General Dynamics Land Systems in honor of members of the United States military. Applicant must be active duty personnel of the U.S. Armed Forces or immediate family members pursuing a doctoral, masters, or bachelors degree (preference for CMU Online students). Applicants must have successfully completed a minimum of six credit hours with CMU and earned a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Established in 2009 by Dr. Jay Griesser, a long-time CMU Online adjunct professor, and wife Diana, in honor of members of the United States Military and Federal Service Employees. Applicants must be enrolled in an online program through CMU Online with preference given to students enrolled in a program leading toward a graduate degree in Business or Information Technology. Applicants must have completed at least six credit hours and earned a minimum 3.4 GPA. Eligibility is limited to active-duty U.S. military personnel and members of their immediate family, U.S. military personnel serving in active reserve status, and U.S. federal service employees.

Established in 2018 by the estate of Dr. Richard Allen Martens (1959 CMU Alumnus). Income from the endowment will support a renewable award for an undergraduate or graduate student who demonstrates financial need and who is active military personnel, a veteran, or a qualifying dependent.

This annual award was created in 2008 by CMU Online alumni for a student pursuing a degree through CMU Online with a minimum GPA of 2.7. Student must be current military personnel, veteran, or the spouse of such, who has incurred injuries while serving in combat (injuries must qualify as 'severe' as determined by U.S. Military Standards). Also eligible for this award are military veterans who have been honorably discharged within the last four (4) years.

This annual award was created in 2009 by CMU Online alumni for a student pursuing a degree through CMU Online with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Students must be active duty military personnel in pay grades E-1 through E-9, W-1 through W-4, or O-1 through O-3 or an immediate family member. Immediate family members are defined as a spouse, natural born, adopted, or step-children. The student must have completed a minimum of six (6) credit hours through CMU Online.
