Dan, a graduate of Central Michigan University, gained a wealth of leadership experience while pursing a bachelor’s degree in history and as a member of the second class of Leader Advancement Scholars.  His extensive involvement with Residence Life included membership in Residence Hall Assembly, serving as the president of Barnes Hall Council, and a paraprofessional resident assistant position.  As a junior he served on the executive board of the CMU Program Board and was a member of On the Fly Productions, the two largest programming organizations at CMU.  During his senior year Dan chaired MAINStage, the Connections Leadership Conference, and Siblings Weekend.

In August of 2004 Dan Gaken was named Central Michigan University’s Coordinator of Leadership Development and assumed responsibility for the university’s student leadership development programs.

Dan teaches LDR 200, Introduction to Leadership as well as serving as an instructor for the First Year Experience program.

In addition to his duties in the Leadership Institute Dan has served as an advisor for Academic Orientation, volunteers for the Admissions Office, is the advisor for Habitat for Humanity, and sits on the Chapter Advisory Council for Sigma Alpha Epsilon, a social fraternity he helped found as an undergraduate student.  An active member of the Mt. Pleasant Community, Dan is in the Lions Club and is the President of the Mt. Pleasant Chapter of the CMU Alumni Association.  Dan is a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators. 

Dan's parents, Mike and Judy, his brother Andy are all CMU alumni.
