CMU and Macomb Community College launch 3+1 pathways to a bachelor’s degree
Psychology and Organizational Leadership lets students start at Macomb and finish with a CMU degree

Central Michigan University and Macomb Community College have launched new 3+1 pathways into CMU's Psychology and Organizational Leadership bachelor's degree programs. Students complete their first three years at Macomb and their final year through CMU Online. Leaders from both institutions came together on October 12 to officially recognize the partnership.
The 3+1 pathway gives Macomb students a clear, affordable route to a bachelor’s degree. They can begin at Macomb knowing exactly how their coursework applies toward a CMU degree and what comes next. The final year is completed online, so students the flexibility to keep working and meet family responsibilities while they finish.
Faculty, advisors, transfer professionals and staff at both institutions collaborated on the pathway to ensure students will be supported from their first day at Macomb through graduation at CMU. The agreement commits both institutions to supporting students throughout their educational journey.
“Strong partnerships with community colleges open doors for students,” said Kaleb Patrick, vice president of CMU Online. “With Macomb, we’ve built a clear, flexible route to a CMU bachelor’s degree, and CMU Online makes that final year possible for students who are ready to take the next step in their careers and their lives.”
In Organizational Leadership, students build on CMU’s long history of developing leaders and strengthen the skills needed to lead teams, organizations and communities. In Psychology, students explore how people think, behave and interact, and can focus on business psychology, with career paths in human resources, consulting and marketing, or on mental health, with career paths in case management, social work and nonprofit leadership.

CMU President Neil MacKinnon, Provost Paula Lancaster and Vice President Kaleb Patrick of CMU Online spoke at the signing, Macomb President Lori Gonko. The agreement reflects the partners’ shared commitment to identifying and removing barriers for community college students who want to continue their education.
