Two faculty members from the Covenant HealthCare College of Medicine at Central Michigan University, Neli Ragina, Ph.D., assistant dean for UME and GME research and Sarah Yonder, M.D., associate professor of family medicine, along with Shay Dawson, Ph.D., a faculty member from the CMU department of Recreation, Parks and Leisure Services, have been selected to publish a guide as part of the International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) 2026-2027 Manuals series.

Ragina and her team proposed a piece entitled A Guide for Development and Integration of Patient-Centered Curriculum Interventions for Improving Healthcare for People Living with Disabilities.  Their work was selected from hundreds of submissions worldwide, and it will serve as a practical resource for medical educators globally. The manual will provide evidence-based strategies and actionable guidance for integrating patient-centered approaches into health professions curricula with the goal of improving health care for people living with disabilities, an area of growing importance in advancing equitable, high-quality care for all.

Selection for the IAMSE Manuals series is highly competitive and reflects the scholarly impact, innovation, and relevance of the authors’ work. It is an international recognition of excellence in medical education scholarship. The team’s contribution will help shape how future physicians and health professionals are trained.  This achievement highlights the college’s continued leadership in advancing inclusive medical education and improving health care outcomes through thoughtful, forward-looking curriculum development.

The Covenant HealthCare College of Medicine at Central Michigan University was founded in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, in 2010 and was named by Covenant HealthCare in 2025.  The college will soon be moving to its new home in the CMU MyMichigan Medical Education building on the MyMichigan Health campus in Saginaw.
