The College of Business Administration will host the 5th Annual Ethics Summit on Friday, Feb. 20, in the Grawn Atrium. The event begins with lunch at 11:30 a.m., followed by the keynote address from 12 to 1 p.m.

Centered on the theme “The Obstacles to Ethical Leadership,” this year’s summit explores the challenges leaders face in maintaining ethical decision-making—and how understanding those challenges can lead to better outcomes for individuals and organizations alike.

“This year's focus is on the obstacles to ethical leadership,” said event co-organizer Amy McGinnis, Director of Student Experience in the Student Engagement and Professional Development and Department of Management faculty member. “So, [we’re] trying to answer the question, why is it difficult for leaders to be ethical? The hope is that understanding those pitfalls and those challenges will help everyone to be better leaders”.

An interactive keynote with Dr. Joanne Ciulla

This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Joanne B. Ciulla, a nationally respected scholar known for her work at the intersection of ethics and leadership. She serves as professor and director of the Institute for Ethical Leadership at Rutgers Business School.

“What people can expect from her is an interactive and engaging keynote,” said McGinnis. “She is a researcher, a philosopher, an ethics and leadership expert who will bring her plethora of information to the conversation. I'm excited to learn from her and to hear more about the conundrums of ethical leadership, some of the obstacles”.

Dr. Ciulla has written ten books, published hundreds of articles, and received numerous lifetime achievement awards. Attendees can expect a thought-provoking, accessible session followed by an open Q&A.
