New administrative policy review process launching
Processes will streamline policy work
Central Michigan University’s Administrative Policy Review Committee (APRC), established by former President Davies following the recommendation of the working group that supported Strategic Priority 4 of CMU’s 2023-2028 Strategic Plan, has spent 2025 evaluating and improving how administrative policies are created and maintained. This cross-University committee, which operates in coordination with the Office of General Counsel, has developed new processes (including roles & responsibilities) to ensure policies remain current, consistent, and understandable.
Starting January 1, 2026, departments seeking to create a new administrative policy or revise/retire an existing administrative policy will be required to follow the new processes. The APRC will also recommend to the President’s Cabinet a slate of policies in need of review in the upcoming calendar year. The APRC will work with the appropriate divisional vice president and Policy Owners of the administrative policies identified for review in 2026 and will share more information in the near future.
Alongside the new processes, a revised administrative policy template and supporting resources have been developed. These materials are available on the Administrative Policy website.
