Partnering to grow Tribal Member-owned businesses

A new partnership between Central Michigan University Research Corporation and Migizi Economic Development Company aims to grow Tribal Member-owned businesses.

The LIFT ME business incubator program’s goal is to provide Tribal Member entrepreneurs with the platform, resources and support needed to successfully launch and grow a sustainable business while retaining wealth within the Tribal community.

While many Tribal Members aspire to achieve self-sufficiency through business ownership, transforming an idea into a successful enterprise often requires guidance and support. That’s where CMURC and its access to experienced entrepreneurs and business professionals come in, providing the mentorship, structure, capital and operational expertise needed to turn a concept into a viable reality.

“We look forward to sharing our experience, opening doors through our network, and supporting participants every step of the way as they build businesses that will benefit their families and communities for generations,” said Erin Strang, President and CEO of CMURC.

As chairperson of the CMURC Board of Directors, CMU President Neil MacKinnon sees great value in the new partnership.

“Entrepreneurship flourishes when communities have access to the right resources, networks, and support,” MacKinnon said. “Through collaboration with Migizi Economic Development Company, CMURC will help create pathways for Tribal entrepreneurs while learning from the unique strengths and perspectives of the Tribal community to support sustainable business growth.”
