Brookes brings almost 30 years of experience in higher education to the position. She earned a Ph.D. in French Civilization, a master’s degree in French from Pennsylvania State University, and a bachelor’s degree in French Literature from the University of Arizona. She began her career as a French professor and has held numerous academic leadership roles, including department chair, coordinator of general education, inaugural director of the public and applied liberal arts major, and — at the college level — director of academic initiatives, interim associate dean, and assistant dean.

“Christi is a collaborative, student-centered, and strategic leader who understands the important connection between academic and student success,” Lancaster said. “Her experience across curriculum and teaching, faculty leadership, along with interdisciplinary and international work will ensure strong continuity during this transition.”

Lancaster added that Brookes’ appointment supports the university’s commitment to advancing academic excellence and innovation while maintaining stability in leadership. The university will begin a national search for permanent position as part of its long-term strategic planning efforts.
