Search begins for University Engagement leader
Committee will begin reviewing applicants in March 2026
Shawna Patterson-Stephens, vice president of University Engagement and Student Affairs, will lead a six-member committee to seek the university’s first associate vice president of University Engagement.
As part of the division’s leadership team, the AVP of University Engagement will provide executive leadership for units focused on student success and organizational culture, including the CMU Cares office, the Center for Collaborative Learning and Engagement, the CMU Counseling Center, and more. In addition, the individual in this role provides guidance on matters pertaining to community engagement and belonging.
Patterson-Stephens said the AVP of University Engagement will work closely with the AVP of Student Affairs, CMU colleagues in Student Recruitment and Retention and CMU Athletics, members of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, and other campus and community partners to foster strong relationships and to develop new opportunities for student, faculty and staff engagement.
Vice President Patterson-Stephens will chair the search committee. Other committee members are:

- Eduardo Memije-Ramirez, student
- Ebay Merlin, alumnus and community member
- Shanese Ross-Pierre, director of partnerships and community engagement, Center for Charter Schools
- Naveen Sharma, chair and faculty member, School of Health Sciences
