Calendar for local events offers options for CMU programs
New community events calendar showcases best of local area
Central Michigan University students, faculty and staff now have a new resource to learn about — and share —events happening in the greater Mount Pleasant community.
The Meet Mt. Pleasant Local Events Calendar, hosted by the Mt. Pleasant Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, now offers a “local events” tab especially for events of interest to local residents, including CMU students, faculty and staff.

The new calendar is the result of conversations among members of the Community Relations Committee.
“The Meet Mt. Pleasant events calendar was previously focused on visitors to our area, who may be looking for a different experience than our local residents,” said Chris Rowley, executive director of the Mt. Pleasant Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. Rowley also serves as co-chair of the Community Relations Committee. “During our first two Community Relations Committee meetings, it became clear that we needed a local resource to share events happening at CMU and within the local community that would be of interest to area residents.”
CMU has a university events calendar, which showcases events on campus; however, the Community Relations Committee recognized that not all community members or visitors to the area are aware that those events are open to the general public, Rowley said. Similarly, CMU students, faculty and staff might not know where to look for events happening outside the university campus.
“Bringing all events together in one place showcases just how vibrant and exciting life in our community really is,” Rowley said.
CMU students, faculty and staff who are hosting events that are open to the public can fill out an online form to be added to the new local events calendar. The Community Relations Committee and the Meet Mt. Pleasant team are also exploring technology that would allow the university events calendar and the local events calendar to share information more seamlessly and effectively in the future, Rowley said.
