SAGINAW, Mich. – Emergency medicine residents from across Michigan will put their expertise to the test during this year’s Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association of Michigan (EMRAM) SIM Wars, an annual competition involving high-pressure medical simulation scenarios. This year’s competition is hosted by the CMU Medical Education Partners (CMEP) at the Covenant Healthcare Simulation Center located at the Stone Street campus in Saginaw.

The 15th annual SIM Wars competition sponsors include:

  • Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association of Michigan (EMRAM)
  • Michigan College of Emergency Physicians (MCEP)
  • Covenant Healthcare Emergency Physician Group
  • Vituity Healthcare Solutions

The competition will take place on Wednesday, April 15 beginning at 9 a.m. A total of 10 teams from emergency medicine residency programs across Michigan will be tested on their acute care skills competing for the 2026 championship title.

The CMEP Simulation Team along with Dr. Andrew Bazakis, Dr. Matthew Mcrae and Dr. Robert Calleja, as well as emergency medicine faculty from Stryker School of Medicine at Western Michigan University, and Corewell Health Grand Rapids, developed various life-threatening scenarios designed to test residents’ ability to provide acute emergency care in a collaborative team environment.

Each team will perform five different graded cases, with the top two teams moving to a final case to determine the 2026 champion. An expert panel will judge each team’s performance in areas of diagnostics, therapeutics, communication, leadership, and overall patient care.
