CMU joins ranks of Detroit Promise’s top partners
Number of qualified Detroit students uncapped
Central Michigan University now fully covers tuition for qualified Detroit high school graduates through an education access program.
The Detroit Promise guarantees that qualifying graduates can pursue a bachelor’s degree or other educational opportunities without paying tuition.
“Becoming an unlimited partner with the Detroit Promise demonstrates CMU’s continuing commitment to supporting Detroit high school students and their access to higher education opportunities,” said Patricia Young, director of undergraduate recruitment/admissions. “This is a key step toward removing that financial barrier and Central Michigan University is proud to expand its current partnership to help even more students.”
The Detroit Promise requires students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, live in Detroit and attend a Detroit high school for all four years of high school. To be eligible to receive the scholarship at CMU, students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
CMU previously capped the number of students it would enroll through the program at 20. The new agreement, which lifts the cap, demonstrates CMU’s commitment to providing educational access to Detroit students, the Detroit Promise announced on social media.
