The organization analyzes the support higher education institutions provide according to 40 metrics.

"Being named to the PTK 2025 Honor Roll is a testament to CMU's commitment to supporting transfer students with transfer pathways, affordability and a welcoming campus environment,” said James Larson, director of transfer outreach and community college relations with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. “We are proud, committed and Fired Up for the success of our transfer students here at Central Michigan University."

The most important metrics used in assessing an institution of higher education include success rates of transfer students, campus friendliness and sense of belonging, availability of need- and merit-based financial aid, acceptance of transfer credits and the recruitment and campus life experiences.

Phi Theta Kappa said that the institutions in this year’s honor roll demonstrated exceptional outcomes, including national averages of:

  • 81 percent of credits transferred
  • 75 percent bachelor’s degree completion among transfer students
  • 74 percent of transfer students receiving merit- or need-based financial aid

More than 900 schools applied for inclusion in the honor roll. Those chosen were among the 25 percent highest-rated schools.

CMU accepts credits from more than 2,000 institutions nationwide and has evaluated more than 200,000 courses for transfer credit.
