Fired Up for English

Large team of enthusiastic English ambassadors attend events, recruit English majors

An enthusiastic team of student ambassadors want you to get fired up for English! More than 20 students from the Department of English Language and Literature are busy sharing their excitement for the program with fellow students and prospective majors through classroom visits and at events such as MainStage, CMU and You Day, Fire Up Fridays, and more.

English faculty member Jeffrey Bean is the current English ambassador team advisor, helping to brainstorm recruitment ideas with ambassadors as well as train them on how to talk to potential majors in various settings about the department’s many curricular offerings, programs, and events.

The student ambassador group was created with the idea that there is no one better to share information about the excellence of the department and its offerings than the students currently within the program.

MA in Creative Writing candidate Emma Harding is serving in her second year as an English Student Ambassador.

“I love introducing potential students to our wide and diverse community,” said Harding. “My hope is that my enthusiasm for the English Department's flexibility, versatility, and community leaves students eager for more and ready to embrace the limitless possibilities that we have to offer.”
