Central Michigan University held its inaugural nursing student pledge ceremony on Monday, September 15 inside French Auditorium.

A dozen first-year nursing students recited the Florence Nightingale Pledge, which is a modified version of the Hippocratic Oath, serving as an ethical guide for nurses. The pledge has been a part of pinning ceremonies in the US for decades and was created in Michigan in 1893 – the year after CMU was founded.

This is the first class for CMU’s new four-year, campus-based nursing degree program which will welcome approximately 30 new students every semester moving forward. The program aims to address the state’s growing need for health care professionals – especially in rural areas.
