ART WORKS: Paintings and Works on Paper by Charles Pompilius from the Douglas and Brenda Baker Art Collection

©Charles Pompilius, Ivy, oil on wood panel, 2001Central Michigan University alum and Michigan-Born artist, Charles Pompilius, is widely recognized as one of the state’s preeminent artists. His artworks from the Douglas and Brenda Baker Art Collection will be on display from October 14 through November 19. The exhibition is taking place in two exhibition locations: the Baber Room Gallery, Park Library, and the University Art Gallery.

A painter for more than 40 years, Pompilius is a student of classicism who brings images together through color, light, and form. He is noted for his meticulously rendered, light-infused figurative paintings, attributes that were important to Governor Granholm in commissioning him to paint her official portrait that hangs in the State Capitol.

Join us for an opening reception on Thursday, October 20, 2022, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., in the Baber Room Gallery, Park Library, and The University Art Gallery. Remarks from the artist and collector will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Baber Room Gallery.

The Exhibition and Opening Reception is free and open to the public.
