Business students can apply now for CBA scholarships

Fall deadlines approach for awards supporting business education and student opportunities

| Author: Alisha Draper

Scholarships can help Central Michigan University business students pay for their education and take part in opportunities beyond the classroom. Applications are now open for College of Business Administration scholarships, with deadlines approaching this fall.

Incoming freshmen must apply by Nov. 30, 2026. Current undergraduate and graduate students have until Dec. 21, 2026. Nearly all CBA scholarships are available through Scholarship Universe, the matching system the college began using last year. Applications for those awards will not reopen in the spring.

A complete profile makes a difference

Students log in with their CMU Global ID, complete a profile, and answer questions that help match them with scholarships. Awards consider a range of qualifications, including academic achievement, leadership, involvement, career interests, and financial need.

When the college introduced Scholarship Universe last year, Cindy Howard, who coordinates CBA scholarships, emphasized the importance of answering the matching questions thoroughly. “It amazes me when I see students only answer three or four questions,” she said. “Are you first-gen? From a single-parent household? Involved in leadership? If you don’t answer it, we don’t know—and you’re missing out on money.”

After completing their profiles, students should review their matches and submit the required applications. Many CBA scholarships are need-based, making the FAFSA another important step in being considered for those awards.

Support for experiences beyond the classroom

A small number of CBA awards have separate application processes and timelines. For students planning study abroad, an internship, or another experiential learning opportunity, that timing can matter: support through the annual scholarship cycle may not arrive when expenses are due.

The Richard E. Veazey Endowment is one opportunity managed outside Scholarship Universe. Established in 2011 by the estate of Richard E. Veazey ’66, it provides stipends or scholarships for transformational experiences, including study abroad and internships at nationally recognized institutions.

Students considering a specific experience can contact the college at cba@cmich.edu to discuss whether it fits the endowment’s purpose and learn about application requirements and timing. Information about other awards and the annual application process is available on the CBA scholarship webpage.

Howard’s advice when the system launched remains relevant as this fall’s deadlines approach: “Don’t leave money on the table. Spend the time, answer the questions, and give yourself the chance. The payoff is absolutely worth it.”
