SAGINAW, Mich. – CMU Health’s endocrinology department will host its second annual The Sweet Truth – Diabetes Wellness Fair, Saturday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Horizons Conference Center, located at 6200 State St., Saginaw, Mich.

This free community event marks the introduction of Diabetes Awareness Month, which starts in November, and will provide education, resources, and support for those living with diabetes, caregivers, and anyone interested in prevention. Attendees can receive free health screenings, learn about diabetes management, and speak with local health professionals.

Diabetes is a growing concern locally and nationally. According to the CDC’s 2026 report, more than 40 million Americans have diabetes, and about 1 in 4 are unaware of their condition. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) states that roughly 12% of adults in Michigan have diabetes, underscoring the importance of early detection and healthy lifestyle choices.

“Following the success of our inaugural event, hosting a second Diabetes Wellness Fair felt like a natural step,” said Zeina Habib, M.D., endocrinologist at CMU Health. “In today’s fast-paced culture, convenient, highly processed food options are often more accessible, while opportunities for physical activity can be limited. Through the resources offered at this fair, we aim to highlight practical ways to prepare quick nutritious meals, and simple at‑home workouts that fit into busy schedules, while also providing attendees the opportunity to learn from medical experts on topics such as carbohydrate awareness, GLP-1 medications, and stress management.”

Attendees will have access to:

  • Live food demonstration
  • Free health screenings
  • Fitness demonstrations from local fitness instructors
  • Educational resources for healthier living
  • Local health experts available to answer questions

“Whether you are living with diabetes, supporting a loved one or want to know more information, the Diabetes Wellness Fair provides valuable information and practical tools to help you make informed decisions and embrace a healthier lifestyle,” said Michael Sullivan, M.D., chief medical officer at CMU Health.

Admission and screenings are free and open to the public. The event is made possible with support from Abbott, CMU Health, Covenant HealthCare, Covenant HealthCare College of Medicine at Central Michigan University, Saginaw County Health Department, BWell Saginaw, and MyMichigan Medical Center Saginaw.
