Great Lakes Bay Region Mental Health Initiative to host screening, youth mental health discussion at The Temple Theatre
SAGINAW, Mich. – The Great Lakes Bay Region Mental Health Initiative at CMU Health will host a free special screening of “My Sister Liv”, Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Temple Theatre in Saginaw.
The documentary sheds light on the realities of youth mental health, the impact of stigma, and the lasting impact of suicide. Following the screening, GLBRMHI will hold a panel discussion featuring Saginaw-area professionals and community members with lived experience for a conversation about mental health, connection, and hope.
“Stories have the power to change the way we see mental health, and Liv’s story gives us an opportunity to have an honest conversation about what so many young people and families are experiencing,” said Dallas Rau, director of the GLBRMHI. “Our hope is that people leave this event not only with a greater understanding of the impact of stigma and suicide, but with a renewed sense of connection, hope, and knowing that help is available.”
Mental health providers will be in attendance, and youth will need to complete an exit slip to let organizers know if they would like follow-up support for themselves or a friend.
The film is approved for viewers ages 14 and older. Interested individuals may register here to attend this free screening.
