Professionals from offices across campus visited English 201 students September 12 for an interview fair organized by Department of English Language and Literature faculty member Holly Lewis.

Lewis invited representatives from CMU Cares, Dining, Central Sustainability, Res Life, University Communications and others to be interviewed by her 50 students.

Seated at tables around the perimeter of the classroom, professionals, paraprofessionals and staff waited for students to approach with questions. This setup was an excellent opportunity for meaningful one-on-one connections with members of the CMU community.

During the fair, students gathered information and inspiration for their final projects: creating a dream for the future of CMU. Students have the freedom to choose any modality of presentation for their project, including PowerPoint, poster board, website, etc. Students are choosing to center their projects on advocating for new funding opportunities, making CMU’s website more accessible, creating new programs they wish the university would adopt, and other creative ideas for positive change.

“I designed this class to give students the opportunity to engage with a topic that matters to them, while also recognizing their role as active members of the CMU community,” says Lewis.

Zoey Archbold from Central Sustainability says, “I loved being part of such a collaborative and creative space with passionate students and knowledgeable organizations!”

The public is welcome to join Lewis and her class December 1 from 9 to11 a.m. in Finch 100 to see their final projects.
