Event and recreation management faculty recognized for excellence in the field

Established in 1980, the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing leadership and excellence within the parks and recreation profession. Dr. Lori Irwin, faculty member for the Department of Recreation, Parks and Leisure Services Administration (RPL), will be inducted as a Fellow of the AAPRA class of 2026!

Members of the Academy are recognized as distinguished leaders in the field of park and recreation, with a minimum of 15 years of high-level administrative experience, who have demonstrated outstanding ability in administration, management or education in the profession.

“As an Academy member, I look forward to contributing to the profession by sharing knowledge, supporting future leaders, and helping strengthen the impact parks and recreation has on communities across the country,” says Irwin. “Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to have outstanding colleagues, family and friends who have inspired and supported my professional journey.”

Irwin joined Central Michigan University’s RPL department in 2004, bringing with her 14 years of experience as a professional in the recreation and event industry. She will be joining 137 active members of the AAPRA, with only 25 of them also being educators! Irwin will be formally inducted into the AAPRA later this year at the National Recreation and Park Association Conference in Philadelphia, PA.

She concludes, “I am proud to represent Central Michigan University and look forward to contributing as much as possible through AAPRA to improve the lives of everyone in our communities.”
