Expanding rural care: Mobile Health Central goes high-tech with satellite internet
Mobile Health Central high-tech upgrade
Mobile Health Central (MHC) has been upgraded to satellite internet service through Starlink, enabling reliable connectivity in some of the most remote locations. This enhancement is a major win for the rural communities MHC is designed to serve, expanding its service area to nearly all rural regions in Michigan. “As long as MHC has a clear view of the sky, internet access should be available to support telehealth, electronic medical records, and future tools like AI” said John Jervinsky, Manager of the Telehealth Program at the CMU Rural Health Excellence Institute.
MHC strives to bridge service gaps and increase access to care by partnering with organizations to provide health assessments, screenings, and referrals to underserved populations in Michigan. By implementing Starlink, MHC’s mission is even more possible.
Mobile Health Central is equipped with:
- A soundproof booth and equipment to function as an audiology clinic for pediatric, vestibular, and cochlear implant services.
- Multipurpose examination rooms.
- An accessible design featuring a lift and a handicapped-accessible bathroom.
- Storage facilities for vaccinations, medication, and blood samples.
Organizations can request MHC services for upcoming events by completing the form online or contacting the Carls Center for Clinical Care and Education. Those interested in expanding Mobile Health Central’s reach can contribute through the Mobile Health Vehicle Outreach Fund.
The Herbert H. & Grace A Dow College of Health Professions is excited for the future of MHC as CMU continues to expand its efforts to reach rural communities.
