In Memoriam: Margaret Danowski

Health professions librarian remembered for warmth, professional expertise

Central Michigan University librarian Margaret Danowski passed away Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022. She was 59. 

Margaret DanowskiDanowski joined CMU in April 2019 as the subject librarian for The Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions. She was excited to support students and faculty making a difference in health care, said Kathy Irwin, dean of University Libraries.

“Margaret formed strong relationships with her colleagues in the University Libraries, the College of Health Professions, and the library profession. She actively partnered with faculty and students providing in-depth research consultations and assisting with systematic reviews,” Irwin said. “She will be remembered for her warmth, work ethic, and disciplinary knowledge.”

Outside her role at CMU, Danowski served as president of the Metropolitan Detroit Medical Library Group, where she actively served on several committees, and held volunteer leadership roles with the Southeastern Michigan League of Libraries. She also was an avid reader who also enjoyed jewelry making and travel. 

Danowski was buried Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, in the Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Flat Rock, Michigan.

She is survived by her four siblings, Helene Stokes, Anne Danowski, Tim Danowski and Ted Danowski, and two nephews, Thomas Danowski Jr. and Frank Danowski. She was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Danowski Sr.
