Speech-language student wins funds
Association backs academic research career plans
Ciara Nellenbach, a Central Michigan University speech-language pathology master's degree student in the class of 2020, has received a $1,000 Students Preparing for Academic-Research Careers award from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association for her to pursue mentored teaching and research activities.
The SPARC award was created to cultivate student interest in pursuing a research doctorate in communication sciences and disorders and a career as a faculty-researcher, its website says.
The Grosse Ile, Michigan, native is required to submit reports to the association on her progress and a final report at the conclusion of the project.
Nellenbach's mentor is communication sciences and disorders faculty member Rebecca Affoo in The Herbert H. & Grace A. Dow College of Health Professions.
