Jeffrey Weinstock named General Editor for new journal studying American Gothic

| Author: Liberty Guilmette

Department of English Language and Literature faculty member Jeffrey Weinstock is set to publish a new peer-reviewed journal, American Gothic Studies, with Pennsylvania State University Press. The first issue will be published in 2025 with Weinstock serving as General Editor.

After a detailed proposal process with the Penn State University Press, Weinstock worked with his colleagues at the Society for the Study of American Gothic to craft a vision for the journal.

Each issue will contain scholarly essays, an interview with an emerging or established American Gothic author, and a section dedicated to recover the work of an overlooked figure in the field.

Weinstock founded the society in 2023 to bring together academics who share research interests in the relationship between American society and gothic elements like terror, madness, and supernatural beings.

“I wanted to bring together colleagues with a shared interest in this topic to help create connections, foster collaboration, and stimulate research,” Weinstock said. “I’m very excited for the future of the Society for the Study of the American Gothic and the associated journal, American Gothic Studies.
