Provost Michael Gealt today announced Kathy Irwin has been appointed Central Michigan University's dean of University Libraries, effective immediately. She replaces Jeff Luzius.
Irwin was a finalist in the dean's search last year. She joined CMU as associate dean of the libraries in 2013 and served as interim dean between July 1, 2016, and March 1, 2017.
"I am excited to see Kathy's impact on the future of our libraries," Gealt said. "She has demonstrated her leadership across our libraries, including at various points supervising all of the library departments.
"Kathy has a strong service ethic; a library user-centered philosophy; and the vision to serve our students, faculty and staff exceedingly well as the role of libraries continues to evolve."
Irwin previously had been on the leadership teams at Mott Community College and University of Michigan-Dearborn. She has an M.P.A. in nonprofit leadership from University of Michigan-Dearborn; an M.S. in library science from Wayne State University; and a B.S. in secondary education from Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska.
