Central Michigan University Health's Dr. Najibah Rehman has been appointed medical director of the Saginaw County Health Department.

She will continue to see patients at CMU Health while working with county health care providers to improve patient care and screening for preventable diseases.

"My dual role at CMU Health and SCHD is the best-case scenario for Saginaw County,” she said. “I am seeing the needs of patients firsthand, which can then be applied to the community as a whole. I am honored to be part of the movement to improve the public health initiatives in the Great Lakes Bay Region."

Rehman recently joined CMU Health’s Houghton Avenue clinic in Saginaw, Michigan, as a preventive medicine doctor. She also serves as an instructor of internal medicine for CMU College of Medicine.

"We are delighted that Dr. Rehman will be representing CMU to the region,” said Dr. Samuel Shaheen, executive director of CMU Medical Education Partners. “Her role as the medical director will help reach more medically underserved patients and families in the Great Lakes Bay Region.

This is the first time in more than 10 years that the medical director has been a Saginaw resident. Rehman was born in Bay City, grew up in Midland, and spent a great deal of time in Saginaw.

She received a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a master’s in public health from Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland. She attended medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit and furthered her training with a residency in preventive medicine at the University of Michigan.
