Central Michigan University is inviting faculty, staff, and students to share additional feedback following The Caring University in Action: Reimagining Work at CMU, a recent campus conversation focused on fostering a culture of care, belonging, and shared responsibility across the university.

The event brought members of the university community together to discuss what it means to be a caring university and how CMU can continue creating an environment where individuals feel known, valued, supported, and able to thrive. Participants engaged in thoughtful dialogue and shared perspectives on the opportunities and challenges associated with advancing a culture of care throughout the institution.

University leaders emphasized that the conversation represents one step in an ongoing effort to strengthen the faculty, staff, and student experience by aligning institutional practices with CMU's commitment to belonging, well-being, and academic success.

“It was heartening to see so many faculty, staff and students from many different areas of the university participate in the Caring University in Action event,” CMU President Neil MacKinnon said. “The open and honest conversations we started at this forum will continue to build toward our goal of shaping CMU into a place that cares for its people and ensures that our success does not come at the expense of those who deliver it.”

As the work continues, CMU is seeking additional input from those who attended the event, as well as others who would like to contribute their ideas and feedback. Responses will help inform future discussions, planning efforts, and initiatives related to the Caring University framework.

Members of the campus community are encouraged to share their reflections, suggestions, and experiences by scanning the QR code and completing the feedback form until September 30, 2026.
