CMU community invited to Caring University event

Central Michigan University faculty, staff and students are invited to participate in a university-wide conversation exploring an important question: What does a caring university look like at CMU?

Hosted by President Neil MacKinnon and Provost Paula Lancaster, the Caring University in Action: Reimagining Work at CMU event will bring together members of the university community to discuss how CMU can continue to strengthen a culture of care, well-being, belonging and support for students, faculty and staff.

The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2026, in the Bovee University Center Auditorium (UC 302). Breakfast and networking will begin at 8:30 a.m. in UC 303 — the Lake Michigan room — followed by opening remarks from President MacKinnon at 9:00 a.m.

The program will feature a panel discussion comprised of faculty, staff, students and university leaders representing a broad range of experiences and perspectives. Following the panel discussion, participants will be invited to engage in an open forum and community conversation designed to encourage broad participation and idea sharing.

“Creating a caring university requires listening to the experiences and perspectives of our community at CMU,” Lancaster said. “This event provides an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to engage in meaningful dialogue and help shape the future of CMU.”
