The School of Politics, Society, Justice and Public Service was selected to partner with The Volcker Alliance’s Next Generation Service Corps to strengthen public service education with experiential learning, networking, and opportunities to create more confident and effective public leaders.

NextGen Service Corps is a growing network of programs housed at universities across the country. This national initiative supports and inspires students to become effective and innovative leaders and advocates, while opening the door to careers in communities and public-facing institutions.

CMU’s NextGen Service program will combine an academic curriculum focused on public service values and leadership competencies, foster leadership and community collaboration through internships and mission-driven projects, and participate in the national network’s resources, best practices, and student fellowship opportunities. Students from all majors are welcome to participate in the program.

CMU’s participation in this transformative initiative underscores its dedication to preparing the next generation of ethical, service-minded leaders.

“Joining the Next Generation Service Corps network marks an exciting step forward in our shared commitment to service and leadership,” says Professor Sharon Kukla-Acevedo, director of SPSJPS’s Public Administration programs. “CMU has a history of supporting student service opportunities and experiential learning. This partnership strengthens that tradition by expanding opportunities for students to engage in meaningful, hands-on public service and empowers students to integrate civic learning into their academic journey.”
