CMU Medical Education Partners celebrates 55th residency graduation
CMU Medical Education Partners (CMEP), in partnership with Central Michigan University College of Medicine, Covenant HealthCare, and MyMichigan Health Saginaw, celebrated its 55th residency graduation on Friday, June 13, at the historic Temple Theatre in the Shaheen Performing Arts Center in downtown Saginaw, Michigan, marking the first time this milestone event was held at the landmark venue.
The graduation honored 49 physicians who successfully completed their residency and fellowship training in a range of medical specialties. These graduates represent the next generation of doctors who will serve communities across Michigan and the nation.
“We are very proud to continue to serve the organization’s mission of ‘educating individuals to become exceptional physicians, advancing the quality of care provided to our communities, and supporting the region’s physician staffing needs,’” said Samuel Shaheen, MD, President and CEO of CMEP.
Some of the highlights of the evening included Covenant HealthCare awarding eight junior resident scholarship awards to individuals who have demonstrated quality, interest, and compassion towards patients. Additionally, MyMichigan Health Saginaw awarded seven awards to residents who exemplify outstanding citizenship, medical knowledge, and commitment to self-improvement.
“This landmark celebration not only recognizes the dedication and achievements of our graduates but also demonstrates our ongoing commitment to advancing medical education and patient care in this region,” said Mary Jo Wagner, MD, designated institutional official and chief academic officer of CMEP. “With the upcoming launch of our new critical care fellowship, we are excited to further expand opportunities for advanced training and continue meeting the evolving needs of our communities.”
CMEP Partners currently offers advanced fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry and emergency medical services. The organization is also expanding its graduate medical education footprint with the addition of a new critical care fellowship program, which is set to launch in 2026.
These new physicians will carry forward the mission of CMEP as they embark on their professional journeys. Their achievements highlight the strength of academic medicine in Saginaw and underscore the lasting impact of community-focused graduate medical education.
