Nonprofit Leadership Student Alliance funds new scholarship
New endowed scholarship will provide meaningful support to students pursuing careers in nonprofit administration
Members of the Nonprofit Leadership Student Alliance (NLSA) set a goal to raise $25,000 over five years to fund a scholarship for students in nonprofit administration. This spring, they achieved their goal one year ahead of schedule.
This endowed scholarship will now provide meaningful support to nonprofit students at Central Michigan University.

Founded in Fall 2016, NLSA is a registered student organization dedicated to supporting students pursuing careers in nonprofit administration. The organization fosters the development of nonprofit leadership skills while encouraging active community engagement. Through NLSA, students gain valuable experience in innovation, implementation, adaptability, situational awareness, and effective communication.
NLSA is a critical component of the larger Certified Nonprofit Professional credential (CNP) program. To earn the CNP students prioritize classroom learning in conjunction with a 300-hour nonprofit internship, attending a professional development conference, volunteering in the community and formal participation in NLSA. These crucial learning experiences have prepared our CMU Nonprofit Leadership students with the tools to enter the sector with proven skills and established networks.
Membership is open to all CMU students interested in the nonprofit sector. NLSA is advised by School of Politics, Society, Justice, and Public Service faculty member Emma Powell.
“We extend a huge thank you to our family, friends, community supporters, and especially our CNP/NLSA alumni,” said Powell. “Your generosity and support made this achievement possible. Fire up!”
