Open forums scheduled for AVP Student Affairs

CMU community invited to engage with finalists

Students, faculty and staff at Central Michigan University are invited to meet the finalists for the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs during open forums next week.

Following a national search, led by a committee including students, faculty and staff, four finalists have been invited to campus to participate in discussions with the university community. Each open forum will be held in room 136 of Powers Hall, and participants may attend in person or watch via livestream.

Abbreviated biographies for each candidate drawn from their resumes are listed below, along with links to each candidate’s open forum.

10:30-11:30 a.m., Monday, August 4, 2025 – Erica Johnson

Erica Johnson currently serves as the interim Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs at CMU, a position she has held since October 2022. In this position, she has oversight of more than 200 professional, paraprofessional and student staff members in multiple departments, which recently included: Office of Residence Life, Student Conduct, Student Disability Services, CMU Counseling Center, CMU Cares, and Sexual Aggression Services. She previously held leadership roles at CMU in the Mary Ellen Brandell Volunteer Center and Student Activities and Involvement. She holds a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from CMU; a master’s degree in College Student Personnel from Miami University; and a bachelor’s degree in professional accounting from Saginaw Valley State University.

1:00-2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2025 – Brent Turner

Brent Turner currently serves as a consultant with Keeling and Associates, a consulting, executive search and interim placement firm focused on the areas of Student Affairs, Health, Counseling and Wellness. In this position, which he has held since 2023, Turner advises college presidents, provosts and other senior leaders on a wide range of academic, co-curricular, and staffing decisions. His prior higher education experience includes leadership roles such as executive director of Campus Life at Northwestern University; associate director of Student Involvement at DePaul University; and director of Student Involvement & Leadership and the Cornell Campus Center at Rollins College. Turner holds a doctoral degree in Higher Education Administration from New England College; a master’s degree in Educational Policy and Leadership/ Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University; and a bachelor’s degree in Government with a History minor from The College of William & Mary.

10:30-11:30 a.m., Thursday, August 7, 2025 – Shetina Jones

Shetina Jones currently serves as associate vice president of Student Affairs at the University of Windsor, a position she had held since May 2023. In this role, she oversees a budget of $7 million in the Office of Student Experience, which includes but is not limited to Residence Services, International Student Center, Student Success and Leadership, Student Health and Wellness Center, and the Center for Student Learning Excellence. Some of her previous leadership roles include serving as director of Student Success and Graduate Opportunities at University of Detroit Mercy; director of Continuing, Leadership in Management and Business and dean of students, both at Wilberforce University. Jones holds a doctoral degree in Educational Administration in Higher Education Leadership from Indiana State University, and a master’s degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs, a graduate certificate in Community College Leadership, and a bachelor’s degree in Language Arts, all from Eastern Michigan University.

1:30-2:30 p.m., Friday, August 8, 2025- Jonathan Glenn

Jonathan Glenn currently serves as the director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Alma College. In this leadership role, Glenn provided leadership, oversight and budgetary management to the staff of the Diversity & Inclusion area. This includes identifying and executing strategic priorities addressed in the Alma College Evergreen plan; developing and leading educational trainings and workshops; oversight for the King-Chavez-Parks initiative; and more. He also serves as Alma College’s Duty Title IX Coordinator and supports the Athletics department as football chaplain. His prior leadership roles include but are not limited to associate athletic director, assistant director of the Sarah R. Opperman Leadership Institute, and assistant director of Multicultural Academic Student Services, all at CMU.
