Dale Wernette, ’67, ’71, the longtime President of the CMU Alumni Chapter in Phoenix, AZ, is stepping down after over twenty years of leadership.

“I love Central Michigan University and CMU Alumni are like family,” Wernette said. “My commitment and love for this chapter hasn’t changed, but I just felt that it’s time to turn the reins over to someone else with new ideas to help with attendance at events.”

The 2012 CMU Alumni Service Recognition Award winner, Wernette’s hard work and networking skills over the last two decades helped expand the list of active and involved alumni in the Phoenix area. His efforts in planning social events, networking events and opportunities for alumni to attend professional sporting events in the area helped make the Phoenix Alumni Chapter one of CMU’s most active alumni chapters.

“Phoenix is so spread out, but I just felt that us CMU alumni in the area needed to get together more often,” he said. “I wanted us all to have meaningful interactions with fellow CMU alumni. I love hearing their stories.”

Wernette holds two degrees from CMU, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1967 and a Master of Business Administration in 1971. Before beginning his professional career with the Burroughs Corporation in Detroit in 1972, he completed an Army tour of duty and received the Army Commendation medal.

As a student at CMU, Wernette was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and the Vets Club and was a Resident Assistant in Robinson Hall.

Wernette is the founder of SHERPA & Associates and Sales Leadership Forums, providing sales leadership seminars, coaching, and keynotes to sales organizations throughout North America. For his work, he has received the Target Training International President’s Award for outstanding contribution to human resources.
