What advice would you give to current or prospective CMU students?

  1. Be Open to ExplorationCollege is one of the few places where you can explore new ideas, fields of study, and ways of thinking. Even if you're sure about your major, try taking a class outside your comfort zone. You might discover a hidden interest or develop a skill you didn’t expect to need.
  2. Manage Your Time Wisely - Time management is key to balancing classes, assignments, social life, and self-care. Start using tools like calendars, to-do lists, or apps to organize your tasks and deadlines. Breaking down large projects into smaller tasks can also keep you from feeling overwhelmed.
  3. Get Involved on Campus - Getting involved in clubs, events, or student organizations can help you build a community and make the most of your college experience. Networking and meeting people with similar interests can also open doors for future opportunities.
  4. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help - Whether it's understanding a difficult subject, finding resources on campus, or seeking advice about your career, never hesitate to ask for help. Professors, advisors, and peers can offer guidance or point you to the right resources.
  5. Most important for mental health is making time for yourself. Between classes and extracurriculars, it's easy to burn out. Make sure to set aside time for relaxation and activities that recharge you. Whether it's going for a walk, reading, or spending time with friends, self-care is essential for long-term success.
