Dick Enberg CMU Alumni Commitment Award
Alfred E Cambridge, Jr. '56
Alfred E. Cambridge Jr., '56, was awarded several scholarships to attend CMU when he graduated from Houghton Lake High School. Remembering how the scholarships aided him, Al developed and funded the Cambridge-Howe-Calkins Scholarship, which is awarded annually to a Houghton Lake graduate.
Al, a U.S. Army veteran, is a retired partner of Accenture LTD, formerly Andersen Consulting, where he worked for 38 years. Al continued his involvement with CMU throughout his career.
He was the key recruiter for CMU and hired several students who later became partners with Arthur Andersen or Andersen Consulting. Al also started the Andersen contribution program, where the Arthur Andersen Foundation matched the contributions given to CMU by alumni.
Al is a longtime member of the CMU development board and chaired it from 1991 to 1993. Since its inception, Al has been on the Accounting Department Advisory Board. He developed and taught a consulting course after his retirement in 1996 and continues to consult with faculty who are developing the consulting concentration in the MBA program.
Al resides in Houghton Lake with Pat, his wife of 45 years. They have four children and four grandchildren.
