Alan C Campbell

Alan Campbell

Alan C. Campbell passionately supports CMU’s School of Broadcast and Cinematic Arts and has done so for almost 40 years.

He has served as the communications attorney for WMHW-FM, the student-run radio station at CMU, beginning in 1972 when WMHW-FM separated from WCMU-FM. He worked seven years to secure a power increase for WMHW-FM, overcoming legal and technical obstacles to take the station from 300 to 13,000 watts. This past year, Alan represented CMU Public Broadcasting in the acquisition of television station WFUM-TV from the University of Michigan.

Alan, who is of counsel to Fletcher, Heald and Hildreth in Arlington, Va., has freely donated his time and talents to CMU. Over the years, the estimated value of his donated time to the university is in excess of $100,000.

Alan’s high level of legal expertise, along with the respect accorded to him at the Federal Communications Commission, has had a significant impact on the BCA department. He also has come to CMU to deliver guest lectures in broadcast law and management.

He is a former president of the Federal Communications Bar Association, a national voluntary bar association of attorneys who specialize in telecommunications, a former chairman of the Federal Communications Bar Association Foundation, and a recipient of the Bar Association’s Distinguished Service Award.
